More Favorite Beauty Products From Trader Joe's

A few weeks ago, I celebrated my 30th birthday and I made a commitment to take really good care of my skin! And I’ve written before about my love for Trader Joe’s Beauty Products. They are so affordable and really good quality. And they just released a whole bunch of new stuff that I had to try out. and I tried out some things that aren’t new but I am in love!

Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Hair Serum

I was pleasantly surprised to see this on the shelf at Trader Joe’s. I hadn’t heard about it but it also seemed a bit off-brand for Trader Joe’s. Hair serum seems like the first product in their beauty aisle to not be an essential, like moisturizer or shampoo. But I am here for it!

I’ve raved before about how much I love the Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Hair Mask from Trader Joe’s, and this is a lovely addition to the line. I’ve been putting this on my wet hair after the shower or before I use my curling iron or straightener.

I’m not sure if it’s because I also use the hair mask, but I don’t notice a huge difference in my hair. But I am glad to have this serum on my shelf because I didn’t have one before. I was always turned off by $15-30 price tags. And this is only $4!!!

My tip - use sparingly, you need a pump or even half a pump if you don’t have thick hair.

Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer

I was really excited about this moisturizer. It was the driving force behind getting my butt 30 minutes across town to Trader Joe’s. I even read a bunch of articles about it before I went. The internet is a buzz with comparing this gel moisiturizer to La Mer (the iconic moisiturizer that runs for $325 for 2 ounces).

It has an aqueous formula, that goes on very light, and feels great. For $9 it’s the best thing to ever happen to skincare.

Hyaluronic Moisture Boost Serum.jpg

Hyaluronic Moisture Boost Serum

I’ve been using the other serum Trader Joe’s sells – the Antioxidant Facial Serum for about a year. And I like it. But I probably won’t go back. This serum is really light and very watery – or aqueous as the beauty bloggers say. The wateriness makes your skin feel hydrated, but not weighted down with anything. And apparently hyaluronate is this cutie’s secret weapon.

Some serums I’ve shelled out $45 for at Keih’s have left my skin feeling sticky. And I hate to say anything negative about Trader Joe’s beauty products, but their other serum feels heavy on my skin, it leaves my skin soft, but I can feel it (kind of like a primer). But with this cutie, I don’t feel it at all. And It’s so hydrating. For the past two weeks, I have put this on right after the gel moisturizer twice a day, and I’ve already noticed my skin getting firmer.

It’s only $9, which you can’t find a great serum anywhere else for that price.

EDIT: I just received a very kind message from the Instagram account @TraderJoesAdventures and they said “I did want to point out though the two serums (hyaluronic and antioxidant ) should be used together for maximum benefits. My sister is a dermatologist and recommended the TJ’s products. She suggests layering the two serums because they have totally different functions.  The Hyaluronic goes on first to attract and hold moisture into the skin and helps your skin absorb the vitamins, antioxidants and retinol that all have anti aging benefits. Of course it's fine to use just one but many people don't realize the uniqueness of these two products and multiple benefits of layering them.”

So point of the story - layer the serums and follow @traderjoesadventures on IG.

Spray Sunscreen

I’m really into sunscreen right now. One because I now live at an apartment complex with a pool and I’m there quite a bit, but also because the sun is harsher in Colorado than I am used to. I’ve gotten in the habit of smothering myself in sunscreen before I go outside. I love this sunscreen because it’s not greasy or sticky at all. It even goes on clear. It’s a real winner in my book. This runs about $6.

Lemongrass Coconut Body Oil

This is another product from Trader Joe’s that goes on light. The packaging of this body oil even states “non-greasy”. It is an oil, so there’s a little slick to it, but not much. And it smells so good. At $4 a bottle, you can’t beat it.

Aloe Vera Gel

I got burned a few weeks ago so I got this to help. It’s pretty standard aloe vera gel, but I will say it’s not sticky at all.
